Improving search usability for Kaiser Permanente

Case study content
Kaiser Permanente operate with a number of different kinds of medical facility. For example, in addition to facilities they run, they also work with facilities that are partnered with their health system. To help users make more informed choices, and support users with accessibility requirements, I redesigned their search tool.
Approach
Timelines for this project were relatively short. We focused initial discovery on understanding, first the landscape and secondly, what kind of map interaction would help support our various users. Moreover, analytics helped reveal the kinds of content, and task, users sought to accomplish.
Results
The research was quickly translated into design. During design, focus on making sure flows and features met accessibility requirements was paramount. We were able to move quickly, introducing new features and significantly improving accessibility. The net result was a cleaner, streamlined search process focused around accessibility and use cases.
